Learning math begins early – think … from the first efforts to speak … early. How do we start? We start with numbers.
NUMBERS – Our numbering system is written and calculated in Base 10. That means we start at one (1), count to 9 and at 10, we jump to the next place value. It also means once you learn the digits 0-9 for the “ONES” place, you can write and count ANY number because the digits repeat until they change at the next place value. We count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 – then at the next place value, we have “1” TEN and “0” ONES (10) – see how that works?!?
Learning this system is child’s play. We give children blocks, Legos, Lincoln Logs – anything that can be used to count and build. Children spend the first 3-4 years of life learning language. The earlier we can insert number comprehension into that track, the better! Explore more pages!
